So I've been stumped for a while on a question, where as the title suggests, to calculate the margin of error & confidence interval of the three different types of samples. Normally I could've done this if it was in numbers on excel...

But for the sample size of 1,000, the answers that were given are "Yes", "no' & "Not sure"... if it was a simple "yes" or "no" question, I would've been able to calculate what I needed, but as there is third answer the "not sure", I'm not sure how to go around answering the question.
I had seen videos of binomial tests of yes or no but it doesn't apply in my homework. As there is a third answer.

So how should I go about answering this question? Any thinks to samples would be helpful too!

You haven't provided the complete problem, so I am guessing that this is a hypothetical problem (i.e. no data is provided). If this is the case I interpret the question as something like this: "Given 1000 data points, is it always possible to calculate a margin of error and confidence interval?" Can you think of any cases where it might not be possible? If there are examples where it's possible and others where it's not possible, then unless you have the data you don't know whether it's possible or not and so the answer would be "not sure."
