I have been married for almost a year but my new husband just found out he is the father of a little girl it was confirmed by DNA testing, He had told me about this but she said that he was not the father that her current husband was there is no name on the birth certificate for the father but this child is being raised by the mother and grandmother the husband left a short time ago and she went on public assistance and she said his name and we got court papers in the mail, I know it is his obligation to pay child support but he wants to sign over all parental rights to this child and the mother has agreed but he said if he has to pay child support he will, We were just wondering if he could do that the little girl is 3 and believes that her daddy is in heaven, What should he do!!

I would make sure this child is really his by having a paternity test done. Then if she is his I would pay child support but then you guys need to decide if you want to be in her life he is her father and she should know and if he is paying child support and he should get to see her but if he signs over his rights he shouldn't have to pay child support because he is signing everything of her away.

All children need their fathers, period. It won't hurt to spend a couple of days a month with her. You may even enjoy it.
