Generally you have two poles, one for starter wire and one for battery terminal (positive).

There will be a smaller connector that runs from the ignition switch. When the smaller connector is energized it will connect the two poles. Given this function, generally the two poles are non-biased as to which goes to starter and which goes to battery. As long as the ignition switch is connected to the proper connector it should work. If the poles are biased, then they are usually labeled, line (for battery) and load (for starter).
