View Full Version : Slow to get hot water

Hi,
We live in a small (1600 sq ft) 1 story house that was built four years ago.
Our problem is that it takes a long time (like 1 or 2 minutes) for hot water to come out of the tap. This occurs at all taps in or house whether they are 10 feet away from the hot water heater or 20 feet (which is about the furthest distance).
We are wasting a great deal of water waiting for the hot water to come out of the tap.
It is an electric tank that is turned down low enough so our 5 year old child doesn't get scalded. The temperature is fine once the hot water starts coming through. We live in Athens Georgia so most of the year it is either warm or hot. This is a problem all year around.
Any ideas what could be taking so long? (it seems like forever when you are standing there watching all that water go down the drain).

Thanks very much,
Robert

A Pex system depends on plastic tubes and manifolds to supply water to the house. What material are your pipes made of? Has this problem been ongoing for 4 years or did iit just start? Regards, Tom

Tom,

Coming out of the hot water heater, they are metal (copper?)
But I think when it runs up into the attic it is plastic - not absolutely sure though.
Thanks again,
Rob

Why would any water pipes be run up in the attic? Have you had your house repiped? Tom
