I am trying to put back in my ceiling fan a jin you E70469 switch. Thought I was going to have to replace switch, because the chain was broken off inside switch; but was able to grab it. And now it is repaired. When I put a flashlight up where the switch goes, I noticed that 2 of the wire had come loose. This is my problem. The wire color and specific location are as follows: The switch is 3 tiers, one tier is white and has the pull chain coming out of it, the middle tier, has a grey wire at position 1, a black wire at position 2, and a brown wire at position 3. The lower tier has a purple wire at position L, and finally there is a black wire at position 3. So can anyone help me re-hook up this switch. I am not an electrician, so will I will need lots of clarity. THANK YOU

There is no specific code for fan switches. Black is almost always power in. White should not be on the switch as it is the neutral. How many speeds were on the fan? One of the wires will go to a capacitor, usually a black box, and a number will come out. 5 wires is a bit confusing as 4 wire is most common, hot in and 3 wires (speeds) out. BTW, E70469 shows as a 4 wire switch.
