Is there anyway that I can check how many email addresses I have set up on my IP address? I have a habit of setting up addresses e.g. when starting up a business, or for various purposes. The same applies to Facebook, where I set up an original accouNt in a short name but couldn't close it as I couldn't remember the log in info. I now have a proper Facebook account but the old on is still sitting there.

How can I check as I need to delete any old accounts that are doing nothing... please advise. Thanks!

No way at all I know of. Besides your IP unless you pay big bucks every month for a static IP is going to change frequently.

Most Internet providers have a pool of IP numbers they use when people log in... they can have many more subscribers than available IP numbers this way, its cheaper. For someone like a Business who operates their own server in house, you would usually need a static IP (one that never changes) because of how DNS (Domain name servers) operate. That web address would be associated with that IP. If it changed it wouldn't work. (there are ways around this but we will ignore them to make it easier to understand the basics). Because each IP has to be registered and the fees are recurring... the cost for a Static IP will always be higher than a dynamic IP.

It can change as often as every time you log in..or it might be days or weeks...but it will change at some point. There is a lot more to it...but that's an easier to understand Readers Digest version.

In the days of dial up ISPs every time you connected your ISP would assign you the next IP address, not being used. So it was common to get a new IP with every login. However, with the advent of broadband access this changed. Nowadays, you remain connected to your ISP all the time. So your IP may not change.

However, e-mail services generally don't track your accounts by IP. And even if they did, it is unlikely you could get a list from them.

Facebook is a little different. I believe Facebook does track the IP and computer someone logs in from for security reasons. But, again, I doubt if Facebook would provide that info.

If you don't use an account for a length of time it will generally be closed as dormant.

Amber101, your question really doesn't make sense. An IP address is something like a license plate number to identify your current connection to the internet in general - nothing to do with Facebook or email etc. I very likely changes all the time, as others have mentioned.

To answer your real question:
Most providers of services like Facebook or Google etc, provide a way to recover your password or even username. Look for links to click on the login screen. You will be asked to confirm via some sort of personal info, but then once you can log in, you should be able to delete the account. HOWEVER, every provider is different here too! Google something like "how do I delete a facebook account" to find out how - if you even can ;v)

The Facebook account, unless you do a password recovery on it, will stay there and become dormant. People might find it confusing, you having that one and your current one.

Most non-Internet Service Provider (ISP) e-mail accounts will go dormant and be removed after a set period. You can forget about the ones you don't use and they'll take care of themselves.

Note: This has ZERO to do with your IP Address.
