I had a Mirena IUD inserted on Friday. By Sunday, the scales had gone up 6 pounds. I feel bloated and believe that it is due mostly to water retention. I just had a DepoProvera shot 1 month ago so it is still effective for 2 more months. I have read both that Mirena will cause weight gain and it won't cause weight gain. Could mine be due to having 2 contraceptive methods working at the same time. Is the fluid retention something that will subside since it happened so quickly? Should I call my doctor or wait to see what happens?

Thanks,
Angie

I had the mirena in for almost a year and have had the worst time with it that I took it out yesterday.. I had massive weight gain more than 30lbs! I was very moody, every time I would tr to work ou ti would get bloated, little to no sex drive and my skin looked horrible! I took it out I've heard stories of women going through the same thing as I am and they lost so much weight just in the first month.. so mine is out hopefuly I see the weight drop.. I have seen my mood imporove just from yesterday!
