When replacing a bath tub, does the new tub need to be levelled?

Yes. If you are installing regular cast iron bath tub, it should have feet. Tub should be installed on a leveled, solid, floor. Floor of the tub is slopped on the inside. If you are installing one of the "drop in" tubs, and / or plastic or tin tub, than you have to put a mixture of light weight concrete under the tub, and set tub into the mixture - even if it has feet.
Hope that helps

Don't level from the bottom, they are sloped to the drain. Level from the top rim.

Hi Dave
Each tub manufacturer will have specific installation requirements. In some cases, you will be instructed to install a level ledger board along the long wall, and in other cases, you'll be instructed to use a clip system, or to screw the tub to the studs.
Many tub manufacturers also require their tub to be set into a bedding substrate such as mortar or structolite perlite D gypsum to reduce flex of the tub material AND to aid in leveling the tub.
Read your specific tub installation manual for the best result!
Good luck!
