I recently noticed a small water damage spot on the ceiling of my 1st floor living room. Quick investigation found that the water damage has originated from the toilet on the 2nd floor. I pulled the toilet up and found that the riser used to lift the toilet after a ceramic tile install had been broken. After further inspection I noticed a gray line at the bend of the drain pipe - a crack. The flag looks to be OK but the drain pipe is cracked.

I'm looking for guidance. I'm capable of cutting a whole in the ceiling to pull out the broken pipe and replace it but I'm uncertain how to connect the new pipe to the old - or - is replacing the pipe not necessary and there is some sort of 'trick'?

I do have a picture that I can provide - trying to find a way to include that on the post - perhaps I can add a comment.

EDIT: Disregard question - I can not delete the question. It's been resolved. I'm a dingbat and didn't look at the 'crack' with a light. I just relied on what I saw without digging in far enough. The crack is actually a seam as it's purple in color. Yep - not a crack. Move along here, nothing to see. Just deflated ego and a learning situation.
