View Full Version : New AC (York) not working, is it a lemon?

Bought a new York central AC system last month. Within less than 2 weeks the compressor wasn't working and the service guy added a hard start kit to get it working again. Still had problems with the house not cooling properly (ie. Taking several hours to cool even a couple degrees). After insisting, the whole condenser unit was replaced. Two weeks later, exactly same problem with second new unit - compressor not working and second service guy added a hard start kit to get us working again. Now we're having problems again with the house taking a long time to cool especially when it's very hot and humid outside. The third service guy is now saying the coil might be faulty causing the compressor to fail. Is this legit? If so, could the compressor be damaged and should we insist on another condenser unit again?

If the original failed due to a compressor failure, and the system wasn't flushed properly... this can be what happened.

The inside unit is nothing more than a radiator... if it fails everything leaks out. You paid for a new unit.. the new unit carries a warranty so you are entitled to a working unit within that warranty period.

Complain directly to York. Tell them you want the unit replaced.
