I just purchased an older house, (circa 1930s), the needs some TLC. My question is, after the water enters the house, and after the meter, there is a large galvanized tank, with inlet, and outlet. Next in line is the hot water heater, and bypass to the cold water throughout the house. The tank seems to be stopped up, as no water will come out of the outlet. There is a large seal cap on top, and after taking it off, the tank is full of water. What is this tank, how does it work, and can I remove it without any problems to the system? Can it be replaced with something newer?
Thanks, Dennis
