I had not used my A/C for a while. When I started it, it did not cool or dehumidify. Turned out the drain pipe was clogged. I used a shop vac to clear it and changed the air filter which was dirty. I also put bleach in the drain pipe. Now I see water coming from the pipe, sometimes one drip a second. But the house does not cool. What would cause this?

Do you have good air circulation? Condensation indicates that cooling is going on but is the air being circulated out into the home. Is air being pulled into the return vent?

Thanks for responding. I have 2 vents that suck air in. They are pulling enough air that when I replaced the filters they sucked the filter up to them. Air is flowing out of the vents in each room that I have checked.

A lot depends on the condition of the house, ambient outside temp, the windows, insulation, air sealing, solar load, loose ductwork and other factors. If there is water condensate, there is cooling. Have a tech check the Freon level, it may be low.

That's what I was thinking. Everything else is the same as when it was cooling fine. Could it be that the coils need cleaned though? The system is 10 - 12 years old.

Also, am I doing any harm running it as it is in order to dehumidify?

Is the compressor cycling? Where are you at and how hot is it getting on the day? Ideally a compressor needs off time or it can overheat. If the unit is in the attic, check for disconnected ductwork or critter nests. I just did a resale home inspection and there was a very big old sguirrel nest and subsequent hole in the flex return duct. Hot air from the attic was being sucked into the return.
