Hello Doctor,

I had unprotected sex on the 13th day (yesterday) after my period. Can you please advice me the pill to take in order to avoid getting pregnant. I have a 16 months old baby and we are not yet ready to have another baby now.

I am still breastfeeding too.

First the emergency pill, is not 100 percent, and gets less and less effective the longer you wait, After 72 hours it would have almost no effect.
So by saying yesterday, you have waited to long.

If you go to the local drug store, tell them you need a morning after pill, they will sell it to you.

The emergency contraceptive pill (Levonelle or others), also know as the morning-after pill, can work up to 72 hours (three days) from when you had unprotected sex. However, the pill is much more likely to work if you take it within 24 hours . It's fine to take it if you're breastfeeding.

First, there are no doctors here. Just many people knowledgeable in a variety of areas.

Second, you really should not take medication except on the advice of your doctor. So I would go IMMEDIATELY to your local pharmacy and ask them.

"If you go to the local drug store, tell them you need a morning after pill, they will sell it to you." --- depends on the country

There are morning after pills and 72 hour or ipills. Difference! It isn't too late for the 72 hour ipill.
ASK the pharmacist or doctor about taking such a drug while breastfeeding.

Check with your local pharmacist/chemist or your own gp. As was said, some brands can be purchased directly. Many breastfeeding mothers will use the mini-pill and Levonorgestrel is the same as what is in Plan B or Levonelle/Morning After Pill, although at a higher dose, but it is still compatible with breastfeeding. The sooner that you can use it, the better chance it has of preventing an unplanned pregnancy.
