Had a recent issue when my ejector pump failed. Water from water softener discharge went into basement. Ejector pit gets most of the water from washer and water softener and rarely from sink and toilet in basement bathroom. Planned on installing a cheap battery backup system just in case happens again, but unclear how to install it. Suggestions?

It is certainly an option, but in my opinion, I'd rather suggest you install alarm float that will let you know when pump malfunctions.

I have very good experience with sewer ejector pumps as they usually are well built units. I'd suggest you buy a good pump - like Zoeller ( cast iron body ) - that - with the limited use of your sewer pit - the pump will last you for many (many) years.

Also, you should periodically clean the pit as lint from the washer may wrap around pump rotor, inhibiting its performance and eventually leading to malfunction of the pump. Pump out water, vacuum sediment on the bottom of the pit, and hose down the pit walls & pump with high pressure nose nozzle.

Thanks Milo. Have and had two sensors, water contact alarm and float monitored by Lacrosse Mobile Alerts (sends text and email). Water came out in the center of my basement at the drain by the water softener. A real pain in the ---! Determined not to have another issue. Will take your advice on cleaning pump, thanks. If you had installed mine and I had this issue how would you resolve?

One more thought: If you have large enough pit, you can install secondary pump, positioned foot higher, above the primary pump. If primary pump fails, secondary pump kicks in, preventing overflow

Thanks again Milo. Is they a way to connect them or do I need to put another hole in the septic cover?

It depends how deep is your pit. If deep enough, you can connect them below the lid. You will have to also use another check valve with the other pump Milo
