I have a home that was build in 1956. In the process of remodeling my bathroom, after pulling the tile, I discovered about a 1" or so mortar bed. After I discovered this, I was sure to be very careful in pulling the rest of the tile. Now all the tile is removed and the mortar bed is still in sound condition. However there is an area where my vanity was that needs to be filled in(looks as if they set the vanity on the concrete slab and built the mortar around it) and I need to level off the floor to where I can put new tile in. I just need to know what to use. When I started off(not knowing there was mortar under the tile) I bought some quikrete that I was going to use to level everything off. Using concrete to cover up mortar is not an option is it? If it is an option we are considering just doing that and staining it instead of tile. I am grateful for any answers. Thanks
