Hi,

I am from a caribbean island, I am in a job but things seem grim as the company may soon be liquidated. I just wanted to know would it be a wise idea to send introduction letters to HRs of companies I am interested in working and ask them out for lunch to further introduce and evalute myself would be a great idea.

Maybe send over a nice pen with my name on it too.

What do you think? Too forward?

I think you should do all the networking you can do for another job, sending out letters with resumes is a good idea. I don't think the pen is a good idea, or the lunch, you want to stay low key so they don't think you are to forward and too needy. But then, I don't know what the protocol is where you come from.

I think sending a letter with your resume is a great idea, And even inviting a few to lunch ( but remember lunch is public, so your current bosses will soon know) also gifts will actually work against you, at least here in the US, but if you were going to give a pen, it should have their name on it, not your name, since they are more likely to want to use a pen with their name.

Send out resumes but no pen and no lunch. Remember these HR people constantly have job hunters court them for jobs. Networking is the best way. Just get out there and get to know people.
