Because I was hit from behind by a drunk driver and I took his policy number down and not the company name

If you was hit by a drunk driver...then there would have been a police report. Go to the police...I doubt anyone will take your claim serious even if you had that information.

Not going to happen at least in the USA. No such database exists here. Assuming you are in the USA.

And you didn't call police, even though the other party was drunk? No way to correlate Policy # with companies. Even with a PA-personal auto or BA-business auto, it means nothing.

Try this Identifying Car Insurance Companies Based on a Policy Number (http://www.carinsurancecomparison.com/how-do-i-identify-a-car-insurance-company-with-only-a-policy-number/)

If in the US, you would have called the police and this information will be on the police report. If not, you do not sue the insurance company anyway, you sue the driver, and in court (if they appear) you require them to name their insurance carrier.

You got the policy number, I also assume that you got the drivers information, name, address, phone number, etc... Why don't you call them up and ask?
