I have a 2010 John Deere Z925A that takes many tries to start. It will turn over fine but has problems starting to the point it almost runs battery dead. Fuel filter is fine, battery is fine, plugs are fine, gas and gas cap is fine, air filter is clean. When mower finally starts it smells almost flooded. It use to make a clicking noise when you engage key just before turning over but no longer does that. Could something be wrong there?? Not sure what to do... HELP

Hello

I hope I have the right type of engine , though anyway.

If you jump the starter , from the battery cable post, to the small, single switch post, does the starter engage the engine? This is quick test of battery, cables, solenoid and starter. If it does turn, do you have a voltmeter to test the keyswitch to switch wire at the starter? Wire from keyswitch to starter may be broken or have a bad connection.

Also if it cranks then the starter motor is fine, and the problem could also be either the 12 volt supply voltage to the starter solenoid (under the seat), or the solenoid itself.

Hi,
Adjust the valve clearance to between 0.004 and 0.006"
Peace,
