Did he happen to tell you why he thinks this?

How to Replace the Thermocouple on a Trane Furnace | eHow (http://www.ehow.com/how_8035334_replace-thermocouple-trane-furnace.html)

The parts can be shopped and compared here,

Thermocouples Manufacturers Information (http://www.iqsdirectory.com/thermocouples/?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=thermocouples&utm_content=search&utm_campaign=Thermocouple+Assemblies-)

And here,

Trane Replacement Heating and Air Conditioning Parts (http://www.myhvacparts.com/store/trane-parts.php)

And as always a model number and part number is important to find the right replacement for your unit. There are lots of part sellers.
