Took a hard fall and landed with my right arm just under my ribs, had cat scan at er, they said eveyrthing was fine. That was 12 days ago and I'm still in a lot of pain and still taking pain pills , is this normal?

What hurts? your arm? your ribs? Can you breathe deeply? Can you move your arm in big circles and raise it over your head?

Ribs, just under the ribs actually, arm is fine. Feels like I've hurt something inside, but ER doc said everything was fine. Can't breathe deep, hurts to lay down in bed. Feel like I'm going to die from pain if I cough or sneeze.

If they did an x-ray and found nothing broken... maybe you just bruised your ribs which can still be very painful. However if it just as bad after 2 weeks or worse... might be time to see another doctor.
I've bruised my ribs before... but I did have improvement over the two weeks even if it wasn't completely better... unless maybe you bruised your worse than I did.

I agree with smoothy. I'd fallen on the edge of a large wooden CD case, and bruised my ribs. It took a good two weeks and more for me to stop screaming when I moved and breathed. Apply moist heat for 15 minutes at a time several times a day, if you can. Or soak in very warm bath water.

Yes. Ribs are a slow boat to China healer. I took a bad fall back in May and was not normal for weeks. I used a ton of ice and it seem to help.

Does sound like bruised ribs, and believe it or not, bruised ribs actually hurt even worse than broken ribs. I've had both, and the bruised ribs not only hurt more, but took longer to heal. Also, bruising is sadly something that doesn't show up on x-ray.
I found that a hot bath helped a lot. Also, when you sleep, prop yourself up into a near sitting position, it makes it less painful to take deep breaths. A heating pad at night also helps.

They may want to take another look at the ribs, now that other pain is gone, they can centralize on the area you have hurting most now. Ribs are hard to heal, I fractured a few once and it seemed like forever to heal.
