Can you tie a french drain into sewer line

Hi Duncan

In most cases you are not allowed to connect ground water systems into sewer systems... treating ground water like sewer water overwhelms most treatment plants and increases sewer and water costs for everyone.

You can certainly call your local sewer department and ask them to be sure, OK?

Good luck!

In my are it is not allowed, mostly from one basic reason: French drains are not plumbed same way as sewer pipes. If connected to the sewer, sewer gases will travel up the French drain, releasing sewer gases through untrapped drain outlets around your house. Breathing sewer gases is consider health hazard
