Every other slot goes back to the other side. It may look like a 240 is connected to one side but it isn't, otherwise you'd never get 240, only 120. They are 120 VAC phased at 180 degrees opposite each other, switching 60 times a second.

ma0641. I realize that and I know that it's connected to one slot , not 2. that's why I'm so dumbfounded. I'm guessing that's f.p.'s style of a double wire single pole c.b.

FP panels are pretty much gone today. With all the past issues and lawsuits, why not change it?

Trying to send picture but won't upload. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Will try again tomorrow after frustration calms down.

Typically FPE used a "Split Bus" panelboard, at least that's what I had.
The high amp breakers were in the top half of the split and the lower amp breakers were in the bottom split. For example a 60 Amp A/C breaker would be a dual breaker connecting to slots one and two. Slot one would be one 120 Volt phase and Slot two would be the other 120 phase.

C:\Users\Owner\Pictures\2015-12-01\New folder\537.JPG Every time I've tried to add a picture , the pic comes up on computer with the file name but when I add the file and push "done" this is what I get. Guess I'll have to get my kid involved.

After you click "Add files", then click "Select Files" and file comes up, are you clicking on "Open" before clicking "Done"?
