My question is does the pipe from the sink drain have a lip around it to keep the pipe from slippimg out ? Mine slipped out tonight and I can't get it to stay in now and also can't see a lip where I think one should be should be to keep them togather.
Can someone help me ?

I don't have a scanner or a camera. It is the piece of pipe coming directly off the drain pipe in sink drain connecting the sink drain with the rest of the plumbing if that's any help.

The tail pipe has no lip. You simply insert the tail pipe into the trap (the U shaped part beneath the tail pipe) and tighten the nut on the top of the trap. There should be a nylon or rubber washer inside the nut. When you tighten the nut it compress the nylon washer and grips the tail pipe.

Yes, the end of the tail piece that connects to the strainer body usually has a lip.

If you mean the part after the trap, (called trap arm) that goes into the pipe that goes into the wall, it works the same way. There is no lip, tighten the nut compresses a nylon washer and grips trap arm.

In most cases like this we install a FLANGED TAILPIECE and a TAILPIECE WASHER... see image below. These are available at all home improvement stores.

A couple wraps of Teflon tape on the strainer threads can't hurt here.
