Hi,

I am a F1 student that came to the US in Fall2005. I am currently doing my masters in Chicago and I have a Illinois State ID. I did a summer internship in California.
Now I have to file my taxes and I am confused as to what forms I have to fill out.

I used Turbotax software to file for federal and IL taxes. It generated 1040A, 8863, IL 1040 and Schedule NR. While some of my friends have filled out 1040NR-EZ, 8843 and IL1040.

It would be great if someone could help. Please let me know if you need more information.

Thank you
Umashankar

You CANNOT file on-line ot use TurboTax.

You must file Forms 1040NR-EZ and 8843, and these forms MUST be mailed.

As a non-resident alien, you cannot claim the Education Credits using Form 8863.

The Illinois forms are correct. However, you must ALSO file Form 540NR for California, since you earned the income IN California.
