We have a severe problem with Condensation Build Up in the Basement.. We do have a portable Whirlpool Brand DeHumidifier running in the Off Peak Hours in the most prominent area that condensation collects.. Last December we had a New Furnace Installed and a Cold Air Return added in the Basement (previously there was none in the Basement).. Now with Fall upon us and the Furnace running periodically (18C' / 64F') across the board.. Wake Up to Condensation on the main floor windows...

Looking for Suggestions / Ideas, I have the Furnace Fan set on Circulating but it only kicks in periodically.. Should I have the Fan On Constant? Do we have enough Cold Air returns in the Basement? Should we look into a DeHumidifier that Attaches to the Furnace itself? Cheers Thanks

WHat kind of furnace (forced air or radiator, Gas, oil?). Forced air Natual gas heat is quite dry and almost wants a humidifier. If you don't have thermopane windows condensation is a given... condensation on Thermopane glass say you have very high humidity.

Propane Fired Furnace... We presently have the Furnace set @ 19C' across the board.. The Digital Barometer reads Inside: 20C' / 73% Humidity.. Outside: 9C' / 55% Humidity... We have Thermopane Windows throughout..

That is high humidity... 50-60% tops is what you should have and probably why the condensation.

I don't think vented Propane would add any moisture... I know the vent free gas heaters WILL add a lot.

73% is not good. It can cause mildew and general wood deterioration that high. Sounds like you need a dehumidifier.

We have a Dehumidifier running in the Off Peak Hours.. Have switched the Furnace Fan from Circulating to On(constant), Will give that a couple days to Evaluate..
