Locked up in cantonment for 1 night. Item took was retrieved and given back to retailer. My Friend was charged Sec 380 cap 224 . Waiting to return to station 2 weeks later. This is his 1st offence, was really remorseful. May I know what will happen to him ? Please advice .

Large fine and prison up to 7 years is the max sentence

Reading some of the appeals and reviews from their legal base, it appears 6 months in prison is a normal sentence if there is no prior crimes

They should not go to court, without an attorney

IO Mentioned 3 possibilities, warning , stern warning or jail/fine =(
I hope its not the last choice

Singapore has some hefty punishments. I remember a case where someone was caned for a minor offense. I don't think they still cut off hands for thievery though.

I am not sure if you are a citizen, or a resident, or there on some other level of visa.
If you are a foreigner to Singapore, you can often get harder punishments, they are vary serious on crime there.

It is illegal to chew gum there, Many of the things I own in China is illegal there. I travel there often (have family living there) and they do not play around with criminal offenses.

I would have an attorney and have a plea agreed to. Yes they mentioned several things, and all of them can happen. But I have not seen any cases that ended in a warning, Those with attorneys often ended only in fines but jail time happened more often with no attorney and even some with the attorneys.
