Our apartment complex recently had a new internet service installed. When we signed up for it everything went fine, then we received a letter stating that we have to use the cable company that is all ready installed here.
The new company isn't using the "all ready" installed coaxial cable, they have their own. We understand that if it was in the lease that they pay the cable bill then we have to use theirs. Is this true?

Im confused, but if it is in the lease you are stuck. You prob can't even have anymore cables run without the permission of the rental co. What's the diff between the services? And witch one do you want and which one is the co selecting for you. You could always get the wireless from cingular, or one of those co.

I did not see anything in the lease about not being able to pick our own cable company. I would like to know if there is anything "legal" I can do about this?
Thanks for the reply

Im sorry I am not understanding you. So you signed up for the new service.
And then you were told that you had to use a different service, the one that had been there before this new one was installed. When you say new co are you talking about the one that you signed up for or the one they told you you have to use? And the bill is included with your rent. So you want to know if you choose a different co than the one the lease co uses will they have to pay the bill. Even though the lease doesn't state that you can't choose, most likely you will have to accept what they are willing to pay for. A couple of questions, what type of connections are these? Which is which? What don't you like about the one they chose?

You can use the new and pay for it. The LL is only paying for the old/original cable.

The company we used when we moved in is no longer around. They went through a buyout. There isn't anything wrong with the one they have BUT they don't pay any of it--it is all on us!
In the lease it doesn't say we have to "use" theirs, but that we have to make sure the bill is paid before leaving. The old company skyrocketed in price and the new one was cheaper but they say the apartments signed a contract saying they would use their equipment until 2010 but NO ONE said anything to us!
