I've been told you need to use a special drain for vessel sinks to get them to drain. What are some of the recommended brands that work well in this application?

I don't believe a vessel requires any special drain. Try this site for more info and install directions. How To Install A Vessel Sink & Faucet (http://www.bathroomvesselsinks.com/articles-how-to-install-a-vessel-sink.asp)
Good luck,

Where you bought the vessel sink, you should find the applicable drain available

I like the 'Flip Top (http://www.rensup.com/Details.cfm?pid=13777&CFID=25739174&CFTOKEN=39256861)' drain assemblies for vessel sinks -- These allow for more air circulation when the vessel is being drained.

You should find the applicable drain available cordless framing nailers (http://cordlessframingnailers.com/)
