How long does a mother have to wait before claiming child abandonment ?

Was the kid left at the mall or did she have physical custody of the child? What actually constitutes abandonment is not what some people think it does.

Leaving a young child alone in a house for extended periods is abandonment....a non-custodial separated or divorced parent not visiting their child for any amount of time isn't.
