I have moved to Bristol, Tennessee and the landlord is paying water and I'm wondering if he is responsible for trash collection. I live in the county and I'm having to take my trash to the dump and pay for it.

Hello jjb:
You can find your states landlord tenant law on your states website... Read it... Having said that, I don't think ANY state in the country requires the landlord to take care of your trash.

What does your lease say? No, he is not required by law to pay for your trash removal.

No, unless the lease says he does, no. Also TN has many private companies that come and collect trash (for a fee) Also many places in the rural area there are sites (large dumpsters) often at major cross roads to dump trash.
So no,

The main point I want to add here is that what the landlord provides in terms of utilities and services should be spelled out in the lease. This applies to TN and EVERYWHERE else. When you are signing a lease, READ IT, before affixing your signature. Make sure you know what services are provided.
In terms of trash collection, this is either done by government or private contractor. Check with the local dept of sanitation to see if your residence (is it an apartment complex or a private home) is on a pickup route (are there dumpsters on the property?). If not, then it is up to the property owner to provide trash collection or not. I doubt if there are local laws that require it, though there would be laws about leaving trash on the property.
