I want to replace my 3 TON AC unit, I have got two option Goodman or RUUD which is better. In terms of reliability and over all performance. I live in Texas near Houston. What is approximate cost of replacing evaporation coil and condenser unit ? Ball park figure is fine. I am getting quote from 3000 to 4200/- why so much of difference.

PS: I got an AC window unit last summer cost 100 bucks and does a perfect job . I wish I could install similar unit for the complete house :-(

In my own opinion I prefer Ruud over Goodman. The Ruud usually has more safety devices to protect it from problems in the future. You want to make sure you compare units with the same SEER rating, this can make a big difference in quotations. I don't know what a good price would be in Texas but this also depends on several factors including location of the air handler, will new refrigerant piping be needed, and company reputation. A good company will do a professional job, pull a good vacuum in the system before charging, check for leaks and clean up any messes they make. A poor company will cut corners and shorten the life of your new equipment.

Another thing you may check is warranty, I know that goodman now offers 10 year parts and labor and lifetime heat exchanger... I'm not a big fan of goodman because the equip. is so cheap but they have came a long way... remember you get what you pay for!

I have to agree, Goodman has made some big improvements.
