View Full Version : Am I pregnant? Urgent.

I had unprotected sex 2 days after my period thinking it could be safe (he pulled out before ejaculating). My period is usually regular (28days cycle). Now a month later, my period is almost a week late though I am bloated. Is it possible that I am pregnant? I am way too young for this (17y/o, please don't lecture me about my age), please help.

Um... you don' get to tell us what we can and can't say. Its in the Site rules.
#1. I had unprotected sex 2 days after my period thinking it could be safe (he pulled out before ejaculating).
I'm going to be blunt. Exactly WHERE on earth did you get the idea that you ever have a safe time and that pulling out is actually birth control? Because NEITHER are true... and pulling out is certainly NOT effective.
#2.Now a month later, my period is almost a week late
Play adult games... pay adult prices, that applies to everyone. First nobody can tell you if you are pregnant or not yet. You can't even get a reasonably accurate home pregnancy test result until you are at LEAST two weeks late. Maybe you are, maybe you aren't... you have to sweat it out for another week before you can get an idea. Most females are going to be a week late at some point in their lives without being pregnant... but being late IS the first reliable indicator you MIGHT be.
As far as bloating... hate to tell you... that's common among women around the time their periods are due or starting... it really doesn't mean anything on its own.
Since you don't have a clue about the rest (and many your age don't)... I can't assume you know how or when to take a test either (actually surprising MANY women are not aware of how and when to do it right).
You take it when you first wake up, the first time you pee that morning. If you forget... you have to wait until the next day. Otherwise the negative you will most likely get means nothing. It really is that important to take it at the right time.
And last but not least... having sex WITHOUT birth control is a very good way to get pregnant. Even with birth control used correctly (something a lot of people screw up) its still possible... just far less likely.

Although your reply was a bit harsh, I thank you for your time. I know what I did was wrong but shouldn't it be really unlikely to be pregnant? I mean my cycle is usually regular and not only was it 2 days after my period, but he pulled out as well!
What other reason could my period be late for? And how can I make it come faster, (if I am hopefully not pregnant).

You can get pregnant any time during your cycle and even during your period. And pulling out is too late to prevent pregnancy. He shouldn't have put it in. Sperm are there and oozing out even before ejaculation. Do as smoothy suggested - wait at least another week and then test correctly. Right now, it's a waiting game. Good luck!

As was pointed out... but likely and unlikely are very subjective terms. All anyone can say with certainty is it is possible. And a lot more likely than if either of you were using birth control... and WAY more likely than if you BOTH were using birth control.
Periods can be late of any number of reasons... and sometimes for no reason at all. Unfortunately it happens when it happens. Nothing can force it.
Most teenage pregnancies (and for that matter most unplanned pregnancies) occur because people did exactly what you both did.
If you get lucky this time. Don't make that mistake again. Make him use a condom (or he can keep his weenie in his pants) and you yourself get your own birth control. Its nost effective when multiple forms are used. Never 100% effective but two types are more effective than just one.
YOU will be the one having the baby otherwise.....he won't....and he probably won't stick around either....very few ever do at that age. Then all those plans you had....they change forever. Because being a mom and raising your child comes first. Consider that incentive to think about. Don't trust the guy to do the right thing. PARTICULARLY a young guy. They have one thing in common...everything is designed to get laid.

Your period may just be off this cycle, but since you are normally regular, and given the circumstances, give it a few more days. If still no period, you could test. Tests are not expensive, they are more sensitive these days, and knowing as soon as possible would be beneficial. Just be sure to follow the directions carefully. Basically, first morning urine is preferred as usually the concentration of hgc, the pregnancy hormone that is being tested for, is highest then simply because you've been asleep prior and haven't used the toilet in awhile or had anything to drink, and read the results only in the time stated on the test.
If the result is negative, and still no period in a week's time, you can test again. If you want, you can buy a two pack test.
Learn more about reproduction. With a 28 day cycle, IF you happened to follow the norm with your ovulation, sex 2 days after your period can put you in line for a possible pregnancy given the length of time some sperm may survive. If you happen to ovulate on the early side of the norm, it definitely makes it possible.
See what happens when you do decide to test. Hopefully you aren't pregnant, and will be able to learn from the experience to make some important decisions before you engage in sex again.

ANY time there is penile insertion there is the risk of pregnancy. You can minimize the risks, but you can't eliminate them. You did very little to minimize them.
But there is no way for use to tell you whether you are or not, only that it is possible. So the only thing you can do is test yourself. You can get a home pregnancy test from any drugstore. I would wait another few days and follow the instructions carefully to take the test.
If the test shows positive then you need to make an appointment with an OB/GYN. If its negative, wait another week and take another test. If its still negative and no period then see your doctor.

This morning I woke up, still no period, but I am feeling very gassy and whenever I press on my lower stomach it kind of hurts. I am noticing mucus on my underwear. Aren't those sign of pms? I don't know what's going on. Also, if I were to be pregnant, I would want to get an abortion. Can I get more details about that please?

Jul 18, 2015, 07:18 AM
You have to wait... there are a lot of false information spread around about what is a sign of what. Nothing is as reliable as the test you should be taking in a week. Even that isn't 100% accurate... but it beats reading chick entrails and tea leaves. (basically looking for "signs" and other unreliable things)

What information are you looking for? You can go to a local Planned Parenthood clinic for a confidential consultation. You can talk to your personal Physician. I strongly suggest that you get counseling before you make any decision about abortion.
As to your symptoms, they could be due to a variety of things.

So... you didn't learn you lesson the last time? Twice in two months means you are actively TRYING to get pregnant and just having second thoughts after the fact despite what you have been saying.
With that said it might or might not.
Not trying to preach here...but really....once is a mistake....twice isn't, particularly this close together. Do you think about these things BEFORE you do them?

Yes it could be affecting your cycle. But smoothy has a point. I didn't really lecture you in my first response, but based on the above, it has to be said. You apparently had a scare last month and it didn't seem to teach you much. The bottom line here is : if you don't want to get pregnant, then don't let a penis near your crotch. That's the only sure way to prevent pregnancy.

Last time he had a condom on and we noticed it was ripped. I took the plan B pill to make sure I won't get pregnant. I understand your concern and thank you for your time but all I want to know is if taking that pill could be the reason my period is late.
Also, I bought a two test pregnancy kit. I am thinking of trying one tomorrow morning (7days period late) and one next week. Will that be OK?

Again, no form of birth control is 100% effective, so you run the risk of pregnancy if you engage in intercourse.
I would be inclined to wait a couple of more days before taking the test. Give it 10 days.

Whatever you are doing for whatever reason, eventually you will be pregnant doing it your way, ready, or NOT. Planned Parenthood, or an Ob/Gyn, are who you should see before you screw up.
Google them both.

Yes, you could try a test tomorrow morning... these days, due to more sensitive tests available, most women will get an accurate result a week after a late period if they are indeed pregnant. Yes, also, the plan B may be the reason this cycle is off. It can throw off your ovulation, which in turn can alter when your period shows up. Again, if you test, and it is negative, wait another week and test again. If still negative, the off cycle is likely due to the plan B (although not a guarantee).
If you are pregnant, do your research on options. If you decide on abortion, learn what is involved for both a medical abortion (which would be more likely in your situation) and a surgical abortion. As was mentioned, planned parenthood has information and you will also find information at most pregnancy centers. They often go over all of your options, pros and cons for short term and long term.
It would be wise to see your doctor, preferably a gynecologist, to discuss your choices in birth control. If you find something that you will use consistently, there are options that you don't have to remember to take such as an implant, you will better protect yourself against an unplanned pregnancy. This would be a very good idea in addition to your boyfriend using a condom. Remember, the condom needs to be on before there is ANY contact with you to be used properly. Also, birth control is not 100% effective, so there will always be a chance of pregnancy even when used correctly. Plan B is meant for the occasional "oops", not for regular use. It is not as effective as if you were on regular birth control.
Hope things turn out well and you have learned some valuable information on how to best protect yourself in this relationship and any future relationships. You have to protect you!

You really have no choice. If you are pregnant, it will be time to step up and take a big leap into adulthood. It won't be easy, but best thing, if you are pregnant, would be to tell your parents, or perhaps one of them first. No doubt they won't be pleased, but most of the time, parents have a way of coming around and helping you after they get over the initial shock.
An excellent rule of thumb for future use: If you are considering doing something that you have to be sneaky with, i.e.. Sex, it likely isn't something you should be doing, no matter how good it feels or what a boyfriend might say... right? An important lesson to learn is that sometimes, actually many times, you have to think with your head and not your heart, or other body parts!

You have made time for sex multiple times, but cannot make time for the proper medical check ups and advice? You INTEND to sneak away and have an abortion, but cannot go to a clinic for prevention? You are looking to go to college, yet know nothing of the basics of responsible sex?
How many abortions are you willing to have? You must know you are playing with FIRE, and even if you escape getting burned this time, you could be pregnant NEXT month, or the next. Wise up and stop counting on dumb luck.

Your parents do not have to know. But if you don't speak to the proper people you will find yourself in more trouble.

Also, I don't know if this can affect my situation but I just thought about it. Last time I had sex was 2 days after my period, on the 20/6/15 I did not have sex after that. For a few days after intercourse, I noticed little of blood but I said to myself it could be just due to contact. And for a week after, I had the urge to pee even when there was no pee, I told my stepmom she said it might be UTI (urinary tract infection). So I drank a lot of water and then it stopped. Can this be affecting the delay of my period? I don't think so but I'm just asking to make sure.

I tested this morning it was negative, but I still don't have my period. I am at the moment in Florida but only staying here for two more weeks. I live in dubai/kuwait where abortion and any sexual intercourse is illegal.

Yes it could be. Whether that's the reason we can't say.
If you are pregnant, and it does seem more unlikely now, You have to determine this before you have to go back. And 2 weeks is really not enough time. You NEED to see a physician to determine before you go back.

Most likely you aren't pregnant, but a blood test would give you peace of mind, so it's up to you. Obviously it apparently means that you will have to make your stepmom aware of your having had sex... and I understand that is also a concern.
Given that this would be a major issue where you live, would your boyfriend stand by you if you did happen to become pregnant?
I truly hope you aren't pregnant, and that you have learned important lessons from the experience. Mostly that it would be in your best interest, all around, to not have sex until you are in circumstances where a possible pregnancy would not be an issue. You are the one who has control over that... be wise.

It is very hard for me right now to make a decision. I can either wait until I go back to kuwait but then abortion would not be an option. Or I could tell her and get checked as soon as possible.
My boyfriend is willing to stay no matter what, he will get in trouble as well but he feels like its his fault ( even though its both our fault) and he feels responsible. He is willing to help financially as well.
I only see him twice a year so I am not really sexually active. We usually use a condom anyway. But I will start taking more precautions or maybe stop.
What do you think would be best? Wait until I travel or get checked now but then id have to tell my stepmom which will get me lots of problems. Again I am not really close with her, she can use it against me with my dad...

Planned parenthood in the US, is free. Go before you leave the US. But realize that at 1 week late, even a blood test may not accurately determine if you're pregnant. Some women get negatives on both urine tests and blood tests, for months. Some only find out they're actually pregnant when they give birth. It happens, enough so that TV shows have been made about it.
As for timing. Any time, even if you're on your period, you have sex, pregnancy is possible. Even if you use three or more forms of birth control. So if abortion is illegal where you live, and sex before marriage is illegal, and you don't want to get caught with either, than I have to be harsh and suggest that you keep your pants on until you're ready for sex and pregnancy. It's really not a hard thing to figure out, even at the age of 17.
I hope you're not pregnant. If you are, I hope you get the outcome you want. If you're not, I hope you learn from this and don't make the same mistake that could lead to a pregnancy in the future, until you're ready.

Being pregnant now is no longer in your hands, if you are, you are, and you'll have to figure that out. Making decisions for the future is in your hands. So you don't have to hope. You have to plan, and stick to the plan.
If you dodge the bullet this time, get lucky and you're not pregnant, than you have to take this scare as a big lesson. If your boyfriend of 4 years really loves you, he'll wait until you're both ready for sex and all the consequences of sex.
Good luck. :)
