Is the following statement true?
The supply of basic foodstuffs, such as eggs are a zero-rated supply for VAT purposes?
Are there VAT on eggs?
Thank you

No VAT as far as I know, just want to make sure

In the U.S. we don't pay VAT; instead it's called sales tax. And most basic foodstuffs, such as eggs, are not subject to sales tax.

In Canada, basic foodstuffs are not taxed but in a restaurant, single servings are.
