Hi, I am working on a project right now and I need to find a small electric motor that can operate on extreme heat ambient (500 degrees f). I know there is none out there but can I find or build insulation around it tor protect it from the heat.
Thank you.

How high of a temp and how much do you plan to spend? Baldor EM3714T (http://www.industrialhvacparts.com/baldor/em3714t/?gclid=CNX59Zjkt8UCFU1o7AodtB4AEw)

I am not a tech nor engineer, the max temp would be about 550 degrees f (290 celsius) , slow rpm and about 15-20 pounds of torque. If I could get my cost at or under $150.00 I would be ordering thousands.

Your best bet is to find out how to contact a manufacturer, likely in China, who can build one for you. I see none on the retail market. Most electric motors depend on ambient temperature to disperse the heat they produce. http://www.made-in-china.com/Electrical-Electronics-Catalog/Electric-Motor.html

Adding insulation around the motor won't help, unless the 500 degree heat is only temporary. Over time the heat will penetrate the insulation and the entire assembly - motor plus insulation - will end up at ambient temperature. Also, when you say 15-20 pounds of torques I asume you mean pound-feet (not pound-inches), right?
Seems to me that the fan motor used on a self-cleaning oven must be built to withstand temps in this range - have you looked into using one of those?

I`ll look it up. Thanks.

I`ll check China, thank you.

Krueger is one of the manufacturer of high temperature withstanding motors. You can enquire with them for suitable rating of the motor & voltage.
