My Husband and I would like to travel but he has a violent felon on his record. He spent 2 years in prison for stealing beer. Can he get a passport and where can we even go?

He spent 2 years in prison for stealing beer.
And that's considered a violent felony? I think there is more to his story than you have related. And stealing merely one case of beer would seldom be considered a felony; the violence must have been a significant part of the crime. How much beer did he take?
Can he get a passport and where can we even go?
Assuming you are in the US, he can probably get a passport, but you would have to check the law of the destination country to determine if they will allow him to enter.

He can get a passport, that is more an international ID, and the US will allow him to leave the country.
Where he can go, is by a nation and nation choice, and will depend upon the actual crime done.
If stealing the beer, included beating someone, or having a gun when he stole the beer? Merely stealing a beer is shoplifting.
**** Check out this site, most of the EU nations except England, appear ok.

...
Which, as I suggested, isn't a felony in any place of which I'm aware.
