I am 23 and sexually active. I am not on the pill. My periods aren't alwways regular. This month I was supposed to get my period on the 26th. It is now 2 weeks late. Strange thing is that around that date the 26th, I've been getting a little bit of dark brown discharge everyday. I took a pregnancy test and it is negative. I went to the gyn but did not mention this to the dr because it was only a few days after the 26th. They took a urine test like they always do. My question is does the doctors office automatically test for pregnancy or do u have to ask? Those urine tests came back negative but Im not sure what they were even testing for- I know they test for bacteria, but what else? I'm concerned with the brown discharge. Does this just mean my periods on its way?

Well, it could mean that you had an abnormal period, but we all do that every few years. Typically brown discharge is just "old blood." And rarely anything to be concerned about.

As for the urine test at the doctor's office. No, they do not check for pregnancy automatically. They check for protein in your urine (which would be bad if you had it) and they check for bacteria and white blood cells.

You may want to try and take another HPT using first morning urine.
