View Full Version : Can I ground CCST gas line to Grounded water main which IS bonded to main electrical?

Notice from NJNG; Have to ground any CSST gas tubing in case of lighting strikes. Have grd. Clamps ( 2 ) to use on gas main ( black pipe ) . Can I grd. To cold water main which IS bonded to main panel or do I have to drive a grounding rode in boiler room ?

What exactly is NJNG asking for? Are you the installer? Do you have the installation
instructions for the CSST product in question?

This is not a ground but a bond. You can't just add a ground rod. This will do nothing.
Just like your description says, it must be bonded to the main panel or disconnect, or to another grounding electrode or the grounding electrode conductor. So, you can only use a water pipe if it is also being used as an electrode, and this means connecting it within 5' of where it enters the structure.
Be sure to use a proper CSST bond clamp. A real electrical supply house will have everything you need.
