View Full Version : Am I going through early menopause? Or is this a mood disorder?

I am 31. I have 1 ovary. I've always had severe mood swings since puberty. I got on depo 8/2012. It helped my moods a bit (also stopped my period). 7/2014 I got off depo. Became severely depressed, gained 20 pounds, insomnia/fatigue, moods spiraled out of control. 12/2014 I started to balance out a bit (still no period). Also had extensive testing done at my family doctor. They could find nothing wrong. Never saw a specialist, however.

2/1/2015 I had sex for the first time in 4 years. 6 weeks later nausea, fatigue, chronic migraine, change in appetite, weight lost, stomach hot to the touch, cramping, SORE breast. Hcg <1. All home pregnancy test negative. I no longer have insurance. Just graduated with no job. Can't afford anything more. Very worried. What is wrong with me? Early menopause? Mood disorder? Maybe pregnancy test is wrong? Maybe its all hormonal due to depo shot?

Sounds as though pregnancy is a possibility, however you will have to continue testing properly or see a doctor/health clinic for a proper diagnosis.

Is it likely that a blood test will be wrong? I went to a blood lab to be sure and it was negative. Maybe my period is trying to start again after being away for so long...

No, I am not taking anything. I exercise regularly and eat very healthy...

There are many possibilities. I suspect that your family doctor could possibly run the blood work necessary to diagnose or rule out early menopause or a hormonal imbalance, but it may require a specialist.

It could have to do with hormonal imbalance, chemical imbalance, etc. It's really impossible to say without further testing by a physician. Depo is something that can affect some women for long periods, so I wouldn't rule that out yet.

Hmmm, I have no experience with depo but it sounds like it could be "residual" effects from that since you stopped in late 2014 and had been on it for a while OR... pregnancy?
