Hi my mother has symantic dementia and I have had to control her bowel movements I had found a way that had worked to help her go every 2nd day but two of the toilet days were missed due to she had a urine infection and was tired during it so I wasn't able to let her pass the movements on the toilet but on the fourth day it came out in the bed then she was fit enough to be toileted again but has been able to empty the bowel like before I was wondering whether the laxative use had to be moved to as in bowel clear day laxido was given and on nothing today fibre husk was given this is what had worked but now I'm wondering for the pattern had changed should I change the two laxitive days around to see if it works.. ps she is immobile in bed and I as a carer and son have to hoist her out of bed. . Please reply thanks

Are you, as a caregiver, being supervised by a licensed doctor? Only a doctor familiar with her medical history/condition can advise you on the best methods to use for your mother concerning her diet and meds. Is there a reason you do not have a visiting nurse to help/advise as to your elderly mothers care?
Generally where in the world are you located, and have you explored the options, that may be available, if any?

Laxative use in a dementia patient should be at the consult of a doctor. I don't recognize the laxative you are giving. Are you not using pull up diapers to avoid messes and what do you use to 'hoist' her out of bed? This all sounds very uncomfortable for her.
We can't advise you here regarding what laxative to use and when to use it. Please consult with her doctor !
