My Toshiba laptop doesn't recognize the CD Rom drive. When I insert a disc, the drive opens and closes. The lights flash, and I can hear the CD spinning. But there is no action on the screen. When I go to Control Panel or Windows Explorer - the CD Rom Drive does not show up. Just my C drive and A drive.

I don't know how to check in the BIOS if the CD Rom drive is recognized.

The CD Rom last worked Christmastime when I last played CD's. But now I'm trying to install a wireless card in the USB port and need to load the software via CD.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is the drive detachable from the laptop? I'd suggest powering off the laptop, pulling out the drive, and then setting it back. Sometimes re-seating the device will re-enable it.
