Burners are not coming on. Checking voltage at the gas valve reads 24V only momentarily after the ignitor glows white. Checking voltage with leads removed from the valve reads 24V for 3 to 4 Seconds. Is this an indication of bad gas valve or something else?
Thanks for your help.

Always check voltage on gas valve with wires connected to valve.

With the wires connected 24 vac appears momentarily, and not for the set period of about 4 seconds. Voltage readings, with wires removed from the terminal, was to see if the control board is cycling correctly. Does this condition point to the gas valve being defective or something else?
Thanks

Why do think that 4 sec is normal? What is the model# of the furnace?[/QUOTE]

Carrier 9200 Weathemaker 58MXA100. I can see that the valve opens towards the end of ignitor cycle and for a very short period, and the burners not light up.

Thanks

Are you getting a flash code on the control board?

Sorry for not getting back sooner.
There were no codes.
Got the furnace going. Problem was with the connector on the wire from control board to the gas valve. Sought help from a professional.
