You don't. However, you can run a cable from your breaker panel to the shop but not from the meter.

Just how you do that, what kind and size of cable to use depends on a number of things.

Best to just call an electrician.

You do not attach any connection to a meter without the POCO's permission!

You make your connection from your main service panelboard. There is quite a bit of electrical code that has to be adhered to for this type of downstream feed to a secondary panelboard, but you can do it.

Are you the owner of the property? Have you determined how much power (amperage) you need to put into the shop? Are you going to feed a panelboard? Are you planning an underground feed or overhead feed to the shop. (different rules apply).

You really need to give quite a bit more information.

Your main line between the meter and the home can be tapped but you then need a panel in your shop. In most locales this must be done by a licensed electrician with a permit.
