Hi, I have a problem my birth certificate and social security card have each a different last name and I have tried everything from going to the ssi office which aren't very helpful to school records etc. Everywhere I run into the same dead end of needing some kind of idenitication that I can't get without having my last name match on both my birth certificate and social security card. Can someone please help me? I don't want spend my life depening on other people living out of the system. I want to start my life, my mom won't help me so I'm on my own heso.

Please explain first, how is it the names are different. Did you get married? How is it your mom won't help you ?

I would contact the Social Security Administration and request a copy of the application for Social Security number which, presumably, your mother filed when you were a child. Once you have that, Get a certified copy of your birth certificate and send it, along with a copy of the application, and an application to correct your name (SSI should have such a form; look online) in the Social Security Administration's records.
I would direct this to a regional or national office, if the local SSI office isn't able to help you.
By the way, neither a Social Security card nor a birth certificate are, strictly speaking, legitimate forms of identification. Do you have a picture ID, such as a driver's license or passport?
