Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to ask for a copy of your tax account transcript for 2012. That transcript will tell you whether thetax return was processed.

You can also attempt to get the transcript on-line at Internal Revenue Service (http://www.irs.gov). The on-line attempt should be tried FIRST, because the wait for the 1-800 number could be very lengthy.
