I live in a major city in Ontario, Canada. I provided a substantial loan to a person renovating a property to flip. We have a written contract. That person is delinquent in repaying the loan by several weeks. I have not been able to have phone contact. Can I proceed to put a lien on the property or must it be done exclusively through an attorney?

Doesn't have to be done by an attorney, but you can't just do it yourself. You have to sue the person, obtain a judgement, THEN place the lien.

Thank you, ScottGem. Can a power of sale only be carried out by a bank or other financial institution?

I don't know what you mean by a power of sale.
