Hi,

I have been a F-1 student at Georgia since Jan. 2, 2006. My wife is in another state with income only from her state. We are filing our federal tax return as married and joint residents. I have problems with calculating my state tax.
1, May I file as a partial resident ?
2, It seems that I should filed as a married and joint resident. So, I calculated a Georgia tax (suppose the tax is equal to y) with our total income and her state tax (suppose, it is equal to x), the Georgia tax that we should pay is then y-x. Is this right? I ended up with a very big number. :-(

Any help will be highly appreciate!

1) File as a part-year resident.

2) Pay ONLY on the income earned in Georgia.
