Our 35 day centurion clock no longer chimes and the spring is as tight as it could be. Is there a way to release the tension?

I believe with the centurions, the left hole is to wind the spring to power the chimes. Do you turn it counter clockwise to wind it up? Advance the minute hand clockwise to the start of an hour to test the chimes.
