Hey, I couldn't find a proper category for this matter, this seemed to be the closest one. I have rather odd sleeping habits and I'm concerned that it might be causing me some troubles. I'm 19 male.
Firstly, I'm unable to sleep on my back, I just find it uncomfortable to lay on my back when trying to sleep, the only words I could chose to describe the feeling is simply "Odd". And that's not because of bed or mattress, I have a great Dormeo mattress, and a comfortable bed, I tend to sleep like a baby on clouds. But when I proceed to try and sleep on my back, it just doesn't feel right and I find myself changing positions to laying on the side or on my chest in a minute.
Throughout my life, I can recall falling asleep on my back only once .
It was at 4 years ago, I was pretty worn out and forced myself to sleep on my back(because back then I already felt it was weird to never sleep like that) , somehow after 15-30 minutes I managed to fall asleep, didn't feel any change in the morning though. I don't feel pain or anything, had no injuries to make me feel this way. I just find it uncomfortable and never sleep on my back. I'm wondering whether that's fine or is there something wrong with me, couldn't find anyone on Google who finds it hard to fall asleep on their backs, unless they have/had injuries.
Secondly, whenever I go to bed, I use my arm as a pillow. Yeah. I do use a pillow as well. And whether the pillow is small, big, puffy or hard or there is no pillow at all, I still proceed to lay my head on my hand(which is on the pillow), it feels weird to rest my head on the pillow and I can't fall asleep if I don't do rest my head on my arm.
My arm never feels "dead" though. I've slept with my arm as a pillow for as long as I can remember. I've no complaints about this habit(doesn't affect me externally at all), but it may have some long term drawbacks and I'm concerned. Also, couldn't find a single person on Google sleeping like this, just, wow. Made me wonder. This fact made me consult you.
Thanks in advance.
