What becomes of the receipt of proof of service once delivered?

It goes back to the party who sent it, as proof the document was delivered and signed for. Isn't that obvious?

The receipt can, if you want, be filed with the court as a "proof if service", assuming that the paper delivered relates to some pending court action.
