A gigabyte it 1 000 000 000 bytes of information where as a megabyte is 1 000 000 bytes of information.
See SI Prefixes (http://physics.nist.gov/cuu/Units/prefixes.html) 1 GB = 1 000 MB = 1 000 000 KB = 1 000 000 000 Bytes.
